LCROC Election Message
Election Day is upon us. We want to ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to exercise their fundamental right to vote. We firmly believe in the importance of civic engagement, and you matter. This means you have the freedom and civic duty to cast your vote.
We encourage you to talk to your family, neighbors, and friends on Election Day. Help us spread the word and make sure everyone has the ability to get to their polling place, if needed.
Remember, your vote is your voice, and it plays a vital role in shaping our society. By participating in the election process, you are helping to build a better today and tomorrow.
Thank you for being an active citizen.
As far as our chapter, LCROC has worked hard and will continue to put in the work. At our monthly meetings, we have learned from current and prospective elected officials and built relationships with them on matters of mutual concern. We also heard from leaders on matters that relate to LGBT individuals.
LCROC is dedicated to lifelong learning as citizens and participation in the community. Our various events, activities, and opportunities throughout the year demonstrate our commitment. Some highlights of the year include a cliffside reception with Greg Wallis for Assembly, helping to host a special screening of UNDIVIDE US, participating in the Republican Party of Orange County’s Flag Day Salute, our Candidate Mixer with John Dade, Peggy Huang, Anthony Johnson, and Ron Scolesdang, and our Proposition 36 Forum with Assemblywoman Laurie Davies.
Communities benefit from officials that represent all citizens. LCROC endorsed the following candidates in Orange County for the 2024 Election:
John Dade for Buena Park City Council (District 3)
Anthony Johnson for Yorba Linda City Council
Janet Nguyen for Orange County Supervisor (District 1)
Additionally, LCROC has regularly provided civic education, promoted our unique American culture, volunteered in the community, and shared trusted helplines and resources to support members. It's at the heart of what we do.
On top of all that, we launched deeper into media. Listen to The OC and do us a favor. Share with a friend.
Overall, we have built and nurtured a strong and healthy coalition.
Thank you for your incredible support.
Sincerely,
President
LCROC

Thank you to the members that joined us at Orange County Pride on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Orange County Pride was located at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California.
The festival included food trucks, music, and booths from a variety of vendors, groups, and organizations. Visit here to discover more about O.C. Pride. One of our favorite events of the year. O.C. Pride was a great opportunity to join with other community members and support the goal of O.C. Pride this year to help LGBTQ individuals go to college and get job experience.
A great day to celebrate and honor the accomplishments of the gay community. Thank you to our pride chairman, Andrew Q., for his leadership to make our booth a success. Also, we appreciate the help of Richard N. volunteering at our booth, welcoming visitors, and for the bandanas as prizes.

Proposition 36 Forum with Assemblywoman Laurie Davies
LCROC had an wonderful time at our Prop 36 Forum with Assemblywoman Laurie Davies on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. The event was a meaningful opportunity to discuss the 2024 election, California legislation, and propositions on the ballot.
Assemblywoman Laurie Davies, candidate for Assembly District 74, is the Co-Chair of the Yes on Prop 36 campaign for Assembly District 74. “As I speak with my constituents, one thing is very clear…Californians do not feel safe anymore! That’s why I am honored to serve as a Co-Chair for the ‘Yes on Prop 36’ campaign,...This initiative will restore law and order to our state by holding criminals, drug dealers, and felons accountable for their actions and provide law enforcement with the tools they need to protect our families and communities. Criminals have been given a get-out-of-jail-free card for too long. It’s time we pass Proposition 36 and change that.” Visit here to learn more about Assemblywoman Laurie Davies.

Attendees also channeled their inner Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew, and Remington Steele for a game of CSI: LCROC. The task of the scavenger hunt was to complete a detective log using exhibits related to Prop 36.

Background
"Punishment for Felonies. A felony is the most serious type of crime. People can be sentenced to county jail or state prison for felonies, depending on the crime and their criminal history. In some cases, people can be supervised in the community by a county probation officer instead of serving some or all of their sentence in jail or prison. This is called county community supervision. The length of a sentence mostly depends on the crime. For example, murder can be punished by 15 years or more in prison. In contrast, selling drugs can be punished by up to five years in jail or prison, depending on the drug. Sentences can also be lengthened due to details of the crime. For example, sentences for selling certain drugs (such as fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, or methamphetamine) can be lengthened based on the amount sold." (Legislative Analyst's Office)
"California’s violent crime rate increased by 5.7%, from 468 crimes per 100,000 residents in 2021 to 495 in 2022. While the rates for robbery (theft with force) and aggravated assault increased by 9.9% and 5.2%, respectively, homicides reversed a two-year upward trend, dropping by 6.1%, and rapes remained essentially the same (0.1% decrease)." (Public Policy Institute of California)
6% of all children in the U.S. will find themselves in the foster care system before they turn 18. There are approximately 430,000 children in foster care. 50% of the U.S. homeless population spend time in foster care. (Foster Love). The main reasons children enter foster care are neglect, drug use, and abuse by parents. Research has consistently shown that nearly 1 in 5 foster care youth are part of the LGBTQ community. In many circumstances, being LGBTQ is a part of the reason that they are in foster care. (Youth.gov)
