1977 to Today

Frank Ricchiazzi, who had started LCR Los Angeles in 1977, was instrumental in helping Log Cabin Republicans of Orange County get started.  Some of the original members' names: Dr. Don Hagan, Dr. Drew Barris, Alex Wentzel (our first President), Dick Anderson, Len Olds, and Hugh Rouse.  As the third organized LCR Club in the State of California, LCROC has continued our work for the benefit of all.  (Len Olds, C-SPAN)

1977

Log Cabin Republicans got its start in California during the late 1970s.  The name of the organization is a reference to the first Republican President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who was born in a Log Cabin.  President Lincoln built the Republican Party on the principles of liberty and equality under the law. December 7, 1976

Dade County Commissioner Ruth Shack proposed an ordinance protecting individual rights, regardless of sexuality, for employment, housing, and public services.  The ordinance was approved on January 18, 1977.  After several years of advances for the cause of gay and lesbian rights, a backlash was building.

Singer Anita Bryant led the “Save Our Children” campaign with the support of local and outside leaders to overturn the ordinance.

On April 6, 1978, the Oklahoma Senate unanimously passed a bill that permitted school boards to fire gay teachers.  (Log Cabin Republicans)

February 11, 1967

Demonstration at The Black Cat Tavern, Los Angeles, California.  A protest was held in response to a New Year's raid on the tavern and charges against patrons for "violating" Section 647(a) of California's Penal Code pertaining to "lewd or dissolute conduct".  The Black Cat demonstration, as well as others, were a turning point in the defense of freedom.   (one.usc.edu)

A fantastic event with Rick Leventhal on Saturday, May 13, 2023 to hear about his new book Chasing Catastrophe. Thank you to George Stager III, president of LCR Detroit, for coordinating with us to make the event possible.

We also had the opportunity to hear from Scott Baugh, campaigning in the 47th congressional district, including the cities of Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine, and Laguna Beach.  We learned more about his campaign, issues affecting the district, and he brought to light fentanyl prevention.

Orange County Pride Booth

One of our favorite events of the year. It takes excellent effort to create a booth. That's where our members can help. The booth is a fun and collaborative way to be a part of the community.

Join us at OC Pride and strut your stuff. Volunteers will act as community ambassadors, hand out information about Log Cabin Republicans, and get to meet other attendees.
