Log Cabin Republicans has its roots in the teaching profession and promoting the Constitutional rights of employees.

As Dr. Brad Johnson explained, "Teachers, you will be the reason some students will want to become teachers...you will also be the reason many others will become successful in different fields, because you cared for them, believed in them and helped them...Culture is the sum of our everyday actions, both deliberate and incidental, that shape the environment, relationships, and outcomes within the school."

Organization

Log Cabin Republicans National is the largest organization representing LGBT Republicans and allies who support fairness, freedom, and equality for all Americans.

Log Cabin Republicans has state and local chapters nationwide, full-time staff in Washington, DC, a federal political action committee, and state political action committees.

The name of the organization is a reference to the first Republican President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who was born in a Log Cabin. President Lincoln built the Republican Party on the principles of liberty and equality under the law.

Log Cabin Republicans of California is the statewide chapter that helps plan events, communicate viewpoints, and represent members from all chapters within California.

History of Log Cabin Republicans of Orange County

February 11, 1967: Demonstration at The Black Cat Tavern, Los Angeles, California. A protest was held in response to a New Year's raid on the tavern and charges against patrons for "violating" Section 647(a) of California's Penal Code pertaining to "lewd or dissolute conduct". The Black Cat demonstration, as well as others, were a turning point in the defense of freedom.

November 1, 1978: Former California Governor Ronald Reagan's editorial letter in the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner is published. Reagan defended the constitutional rights of California teachers and denounced an initiative by State Senator John Briggs (Proposition 6). The initiative proposed the termination of teachers for "public homosexual conduct". The proposition was defeated at the ballot box with 58.4% of voters in opposition. "The official date of our founding was March 2, 1986, yet that was the culmination of two years of private meetings, parties, discussions, and political efforts by a group of doctors, teachers, businessmen, and lawyers who all knew each other socially. LCROC was established on June 12, 1985 with the execution of our original Articles of Incorporation.

Frank Ricchiazzi, who had started the Log Cabin Club of Los Angeles in 1977, was instrumental in helping us get started, attending our meetings and guiding us along in our political naivety. Some of the original members' names: Dr. Don Hagan, Dr. Drew Barris, Alex Wentzel (our first President), Robert Helms (our first Treasurer), John Sanders, Dick Anderson, Len Olds, and Hugh Rouse."

It is being illegally made and found in a variety of pills, sold on social media sites and can cause poisoning, overdose and death. Learn prevention strategies and about the lifesaving overdose reversal drug, Naloxone.

Drug overdose (poisoning) is now the leading cause of unintentional injury death in the United States, causing more deaths than motor vehicle crashes. Opioids – both prescription painkillers and heroin – are responsible for most of those deaths. The number of Californians affected by prescription and non-prescription opioid misuse and overdose is substantial, with rates varying significantly across counties, and even within counties. Orange County is no exception.

The ADAB (Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board) is responsible for advising the Orange County Alcohol and Drug Administrator and Board of Supervisors on substance use issues impacting the health and safety of Orange County residents and communities. Foster Care Facts: Youth typically spend about 20 months in foster care.  6% of all children in the U.S. will find themselves in the foster care system before they turn 18.  There are approximately 430,000 children in foster care.  50% of the U.S. homeless population spend time in foster care.  (Foster Love).  The main reasons children enter foster care are neglect, drug use, and abuse by parents.  Research has consistently shown that nearly 1 in 5 foster care youth are part of the LGBTQ community.  In many circumstances, being LGBTQ is a part of the reason that they are in foster care.  (Youth.gov)

"The Registrar of Voters is responsible for conducting elections in the County of Orange...which receives funding from the County’s General Fund and periodic reimbursement from the federal government, the State of California and local jurisdictions.  We are responsible for all components of election management, including voter registration, Vote Center staff and location recruitment, ballot creation, voting system security, ballot processing and vote tallying, community outreach and education, and candidate services such as candidate filing and campaign finance." (Orange County Registrar of Voters)

Context.  Election results are understood by how and why the voters came to their conclusions.  It is important to look for voting patterns over time.  Voters often consider a candidate's policies, performance of officials, and characteristics of candidates.  Voters also think about party identification and the ideology of candidates.  Voting is also affected by social and demographic characteristics.  Additionally, electoral dynamics, such as economic conditions, war, and generational changes, have an affect on elections.  ("Voting Behavior", Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan)

Voter morality and intuition also provide insight into elections.  The level of voter intensity varies for Care/Harm, Fairness/Cheating, Loyalty/Betrayal, Authority/Subversion, Sanctity/Degradation, and Liberty/Oppression.  Voter altruism is another factor.  The level of intensity helps to identify where voters are divided.  (Haidt)

A fantastic time at our Axes and Ales Open House on Friday, February 23, 2024.  It was a great event with members, newcomers, and some fun competition.  Afterward, we continued the fun at Strut, Costa Mesa.  We may have to return to Slashers Axe Throwing and Craft Ales for another tournament!

LCROC has exciting events and opportunities ahead. The board met on Sunday, February 4, 2024 to plan events for the year.  Board members will now work to implement the plans, organize political events, arrange community volunteer opportunities, and provide helpful resources to support the membership.  

In general, board members govern the chapter, maintain oversight, work to make decisions, represent the membership, and honor the founding purpose of LCR.  The chapter board of directors maintains regular communication and has at least four board meetings throughout the year.  There are also interim discussions and meetings held via email, text message, and conference call that occur on an as-needed basis.

A time to give thanks, recognize our shared accomplishments, report on the year, and swear in officers to the board.

The Spark of Love campaign provides toys for youth in need across Southern California.  Participating in the toy drive demonstrates our commitment to helping in our neighborhoods, problem-solving, and leadership.
